Here's a thing: I might be a described as an expert in dog behaviour in general and I'm recognised as one of the UK's leading dog trainers but I'd never claimed to be a Spinone expert. Now, apparently, I'm called the "Spin Doctor" by Spinone owners. Here's how come:
Few dog trainers have worked with Spinones because there are relatively few around (Although isn't it funny that when you're aware of them, suddenly you see them being walked everywhere?). In fact, I'd worked with almost 1000 dogs before I could add 'Spinone' to my list of breeds. (Which either means they're fairly rare or well behaved - or both!).
Boswell, for example, is a lovely dog, a real gentle giant who'd had a bad experience with an aggressive dog and decided he needed to fight back every time he saw a dog, even in the distance. He'd also developed a fear of traffic - from heavy goods vehicles to a stationary bicycle which made him freeze to the spot.
I'm delighted to report that even from the first one to one consultation, he was very much on the mend and owners Babs and Simon had a much better understanding of what he was thinking and how to help him. He's much happier and calmer now
Have a read of what they have to say about The Dogfather and their Spinone in my blog entry here.
I'm now looking forward to my next Spinone experience. Having a problem with a 'Spin'..? Need a little dog training help? Call me today!
