My Dog Was Attacked - Will She Be OK..? |

Candace Myers from St Joseph, Michigan, USA asked about her dog being attacked. She was worried it might change her dog's behaviour. Here's my advice..
Q: Two weeks ago my dog, Cricket was attacked by a pair of standard
poodles that escaped from their fenced backyard. I chased them off
before she was seriously hurt, but ever since then she's very -perhaps
sensibly- wary of any fenced-in dogs and strains to give them wide
berth. Otherwise she''s fine at the Dog park, & on walks where we
meet dogs on leashes.
Should I be worried or will this pass in time?
A: "Hi Candace, It should pass in time if you do the right things.. remember that you're the pack leader, so don't let her see that you are nervous.. just carry on as normal and she'll begin to realise that all's well after all.
If she tries to pull you away to avoid fenced dogs when you're on leash, keep to your chosen path and don't let her pull you off course. "It's OK, I'm not scared" is the message you're sending out to your dog by your actions. Remember that actions speak louder than words!
Warmest regards,
Graeme"
