Emergency Vet Locator Free iPhone App Reviewed |

V-E-T is a free iPhone app to help you locating a vet wherever you are. Do you travel with your dogs..? I've found this very useful...
Why did no one think of this before? An iPhone app to locate emergency vets anywhere, anytime in the UK. If you're a dog lover in need of a vet, the app finds your current location using the iPhone's GPS and lists for you the nearest ones. Simple!
Many of you who know me will know I'm a bit of a fan of my iPhone (and recently, an iMac that I use to run my business and update the website). Naturally I've tried a few apps which are dog-related and most of them are a bit gimmicky, making barking noises and dog whistle sounds and so on. All amusing enough, but not terribly useful.
However I recently found this one and decided I'd test it out in various locations so that I could review it for you because it sounded very useful - it could even be life-saving for your dog. Best still, it's free. (That's the Yorkshireman in me. I have a reputation to keep up, don't ya know!) I've been traveling all around the country with my dog training work in the last month, so I've checked the app out from from Windsor to North Yorkshire and everywhere inbetween, especially Northamptonshire where I'm based and where I know the vets very well. It's worked faultlessly every time.
If you find yourself somewhere that you don't know and need a vet, you simply open the app and within a couple of seconds, you have a list of vets in order of the distance you are from them. Click on a vet and the full address comes up together with the phone number.. click on the number pane and your phone starts to make a call to the vets. Better still, there's a 'Directions' button which opens directions to the vets from your current location using the iPhone's Google maps feature
All in all, I can't fault the way it works. There are some vets I know in my local area that don't appear, but they're newly opened ones, so I wonder if there will be an update. 90% of vets in my area do seem to be covered.
The company behind it are a pet products website, www.vetUK.co.uk so presumably they will be making their money from the extra web traffic coming their way but good luck to them, I say! (I should point out that I have no connection with them and I'm not being paid to run this review on my site. I just think it's something Dogfather clients would like to hear about)
For: Useful, easy to use, accurate, free
Against: Most vets are covered, but not all
Verdict: Great free iPhone app for dog owners
